Hope I

£170.00

‘Hope I’ is from a collection to raise funds to help protect children in Ukraine. The series is made in a palette of mainly blues and yellows, as a wee nod to our Ukrainian friends – with the occasional pop of orange, pink and gold! As with all my paintings, they are bold, uplifting and filled with joy and HOPE. They have lovely little detailing in them – lots of mark-making and shimmers of gold.

Mixed media, acrylic paint on stretched canvas

Description

The ‘Hope’ series are 6 brand new paintings made especially to raise funds for families in Ukraine.

I usually sell these at £225, but to try and entice you with a wee bargain, I’ve reduced the price to £170.

After a lot of deliberation I have chosen to donate to UNICEF, to help protect children in Ukraine. 100% of sales (minus any transactions fees I incur) will go to the charity. I will cover the cost of posting the paintings, (use code THANKYOU at checkout) but if you’re happy to cover that, or can collect from my studio, that would be great! I can deliver to anyone who stays local to Forfar.

You can either purchase the paintings via my shop, or if you prefer to donate direct, you can do this – just send me a screen shot of your donation details. This way you can also donate gift aid – any extra funds at this time are so crucial, every penny counts!!

If you do not wish to purchase a painting, but would like to donate to other charities helping the Ukraine, you may find these links helpful:

Ukraine. How to respond? What do I say or do?

I am just an artist.

…and not a politically active artist at that – I don’t make life changing or bold intellectual statements in my practice. I don’t have a big enough platform to initiate change. I just make paintings that I hope will bring escapism, happiness and joy to a person’s home.

Yet in Ukraine people are fleeing their homes – their sanctuary. Homes should be safe places. Families are being separated. People are dying. Children are dying. Democracy and world peace are under threat

Last week as a family we sat round the kitchen table and we talked about what is going on in Ukraine. How do you talk to children about war in a protective way that won’t cause too much anxiety? The reality of war causes anxiety at best. Life-long trauma and death at worst.

We talked about how Ukrainian families were fleeing their country – but men aged 18-60 had to stay behind to defend their country.

Families pulled apart. Children without their daddies. Women without their lovers. The trauma that this can cause – especially to a young child – will never be fixed. The pain that goes with this is unimaginable. Yet this is happening just 2000 miles away in Europe.

The burden of this reality has been laying heavy on my heart. Families like ours. Men like my husband. My girls’ daddy. Men not designed to fight. Gentle men. Ordinary men. Souls that love, care and respect others. Hardworking family men, with ordinary jobs.

I am doing just a little thing to help support Ukrainian families at this awful, awful time.

About my work:

I make original contemporary abstract landscape painting, inspired by remote and open spaces in Scotland. My paintings playfully interprets horizon lines, colour, marks and patterns in the landscape.

My work is made by remembering a moment, and a place. I find inspiration while walking in nature – armed with a basic knowledge of the physical geography of the landscape, a geekish interest in maps and cloud formation and a desire to explore and breathe in the intoxicating wilderness air. I like to explore the visual tensions that arise when sky meets sea meets land, and I translate these experiences into bold, striking and abstract depictions of a place.

This painting is made on a deep edge, stretched canvas – it measures 20cm wide x 20cm high x 3.5 cm deep. The painting that you will receive does not have a watermark, it is unframed and comes with a ‘Genuine Original Artwork’ guarantee. It is signed by the artist and comes ready to hang using picture wire and D-rings. The painting will be sent wrapped in tissue paper for protection, then further wrapped in biodegradable bubble wrap, brown kraft paper and tied together with jute string. The painting will be wrapped in additional packaging material so that it arrives with you in the safest way possible.

UK orders will be shipped either using Royal Mail’s special delivery service, or by a tracked courier service. International orders will be shipped using either Royal Mail’s international tracked and signed service or international air courier.
