Description

Join me for a day of walking, observation and creative exploration inspired by the landscape around Forfar Loch. Beginning with a gentle walk and sketching session outdoors, we’ll take time to slow down, look closely and respond to the colours, textures, patterns and atmosphere of this beautiful setting through experimental mark-making and visual note-taking. Back at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, we’ll reflect on our discoveries and explore ways to translate our experience of the landscape into expressive and personal artwork. The emphasis of the workshop will be on observation, experimentation and personal response rather than producing finished drawings.

Suitable for all abilities, this workshop is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence in a relaxed and supportive environment.

We will meet at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery before walking to Forfar Loch stopping at various points to sketch, observe and gather visual information. We will then return to the Meffan for a light lunch, discussion and development of ideas.

What’s included:

  • All art materials
  • A light lunch and refreshments

What you may wish to bring:

  • A bottle of drinking water
  • A digital camera / smart phone for recording observations
  • A small portable stool or seating cushion
  • If you have your own materials to use, you are free to bring these

Important:
As we will be spending time walking, and sketching beside the loch, there may be limited seating available. I will visit the route beforehand to identify any suitable benches, but participants should be prepared to sit, kneel or work close to the ground. Please ensure that you are comfortable with this level of mobility.

This workshop will take place outdoors. Please come dressed appropriately for Scottish summer weather, including waterproof clothing and suitable footwear. We should be prepared for sunshine, showers and wind! If heavy rain or high winds are forecast, an alternative indoor version of the workshop will take place at the Meffan.

Materials: We will be experimenting with a variety of mixed-media materials, including water-based inks and other mark-making tools. Things may get a little messy, so please wear old clothes and, if you have one, feel free to bring along an apron.

Please note: a minimum number of participants is required for this workshop to run. If this number is not reached, I reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the session. In this event, all participants will be contacted directly and offered a full refund or transfer to a future workshop. A decision will be made no later than 3 days before the workshop date.

Once your place has been confirmed and payment received, you will be sent a workshop information pack containing full details of the day, along with the participant consent form, risk assessment information and any paperwork that needs to be completed before attending.
