Quirky Birds

The theme of this workshop block was birds! It was only a 2 week block so it involved a relatively quick process.

We looked at photographs of birds from around the world as well as those native to our own country – looking at things like size of head, length of neck, body shape and colour. We also looked at at the beautiful illustrations of Matt Sewel.

Then it was the children’s turn to have a go at designing their own fantastical birds. There were some stunning creations – and even some unicorn birds!!! The second part of week one was all about mark making fun on sheets of paper, throwing paint around and generally having a right old painty messy time.

The second week the children turned the paper into beautiful, fabulous and colourful birds, which they had the choice of turning into simple, moveable puppets or little sculptures on stands. Fun, fabulous colour creations.
