Exploring Patterns
Week 3: The final week saw us use the large collaborative painting to make patterns based on mosaic and patch work patterns. The children were encouraged to think about colours again – hot and cold colours, contrasting and complimentary colours. I had spent some time before the workshop cutting the drawing up into squares, as well as using some ‘plain’ colours to add a contrast to the textured pieces which featured their beautiful marks and patterns. This was a wonderful workshop for the really little children as well as the older children – the more mature children were able to make quite complex patterns, whereas the younger ones just loved the process of sticking and making more random patterns. Gorgeous and unique pieces were made by everyone.
