,

I’ve had the joy of taking part in a number of Pop Up shops/galleries over the last few months. These are the perfect opportunity for me to make fun and affordable little pieces, as well as offering me the chance to meet and chat to folk who are interested in buying my artwork. And I’m fortunate enough to meet many extremely talented artists who are also selling their unique and original artworks at the events. They are a fantastic way to experience direct selling, as well as being great for networking and creating opportunities for future working.  The Pop Ups also give me a much needed deadline to aim towards when I make my artwork – there is nothing like a crazy and sometimes unrealistic deadline to give me the incentive I need to get cracking in the studio.

Recently, I’ve been having great fun making paper and wire birds. These little fellas seem to have taken over my life recently – they proved to be a big hit after first introducing them at my Open Studio event in May 2016, and then subsequently at our Christmas Pop up Gallery in Kirriemuir. I made a special batch of Christmas Robins, which flew off the shelf so quickly in the first few days, that I had to make an emergency batch to keep up with demand! For Valentine’s 2017, I made a new flock of birds – these special ‘love birds’ were created to celebrate love at its best – whether you’re an independent free spirit, a loved up cosy couple delighting in the ultimate match made in heaven, or are you a little more wild at heart, preferring a naughty threesome (or more!)!?

One day soon I will get back into the studio to paint again – but in the meantime I am loving creating such little characters as Effie, Margo + Jerry, Charlie, Mossy and Snook…!
